A large-scale study published today has reinforced the strong connection between physical activity and mental wellbeing. Researchers followed over 50,000 participants for five years.
Those who engaged in moderate exercise at least three times per week reported significantly lower rates of anxiety and depression. The benefits appeared even stronger when exercise was combined with outdoor activity.
Health authorities are using the findings to promote community fitness programmes and workplace wellness initiatives.
